A personal project which visualizes concepts for what a trackless dark ride themed to La La Land could be. City of Stars is a journey for the fools who dream. After winding into Seb’s Jazz Club for a jazz concert like no other, dreamers are quickly whisked onto an idealistic tour of Hollywood, directly onto the freeway in their own retro convertible. After making the hillside climb to stop for a sunset dance, a transformative moment at Griffith Observatory brings ride vehicles into the glimmering sky shining above the city of stars.

At the top left, you can see the theoretical attraction poster, previewing the locations to be found throughout various musical scenes. At the bottom are specific attraction scene concepts featuring ride vehicles which are heavily inspired by Sebastian’s convertible 1982 Buick Riviera as seen in the film. Due to the unique nature of translating cinematography into an immersive attraction in the tangible real world, these vehicles would rotate and pan in order to convey the feeling of whimsy and dramatic flair found in La La Land’s bombastic musical numbers.

I have been captivated by the soundtrack and historic Californian landmarks seen in La La Land’s storytelling since the film released, and the concept of a dark ride synchronized to stunning sound and visuals is an exhilarating concept to explore!
